INTRODUCTION

SEMESTER 02

Effective Public Communication

This photo blog presents photographs taken during our small getaway trip to Seremban, Negeri Sembilan for our Semester 02 Effective Public Communication's Project 01.

According to the brief, we are required to produce a photo blog which consists of 25 to 30 photos of a particular setting or scene at any one location of our choice. We should also include necessary write-up about 20 to 30 words together with captions to further highlight our story on the blog. The photos should focus on or portray life about people, food, architecture and culture.

Seremban is the capital of the Malaysian state of Negeri Sembilan, located in the district of Seremban and is one of the seven districts of Negeri Sembilan.

Seremban was originally founded as Sungai Ujong; named after a nearby river of the same name. The town was then renamed to Seremban after that. Seremban is also referred as "Fu Yong" ( 芙蓉 ) among the Chinese-speaking community, although the name is unrecognized officially. ( Malaysia Travel Atlas Including Singapore & Brunei. (1st Ed.), 2011)

A brief history of Seremban

The town of Seremban started of quite humbly with only two rows of shop houses which were built for the mining community around its vicinity. However, it has bloomed significantly with the development of the transportation system in Malaya during British colonial days. The infrastructure of old Seremban was centred around transporting raw materials and tin ore and the community, mainly Chinese traders built their lives around the mining industry.

The railway line that passes through this town was mainly developed to transport tin to ports nearby. It also connects Seremban to most part of the country and contribute significantly to the town development. The Seremban Railway Station, built in 1924 is one of the town historical landmarks and remain a significant part of the town. ( Virtual Tourist, 2004 )

Besides that, Negeri Sembilan literally means "Nine States" reflecting the historical confederation of nine states, which were finally unified under the Yam Tuan in 1889. Today, only seven out of the nine districts remain; comprising Jelebu, Jempol, Kuala Pilah, Port Dickson, Rembau, Seremban and Tampin. Seremban is the capital of modern Negeri Sembilan while its royal capital is Seri Menanti. ( Journey Malaysia, 2006 )
